Shadows on the Wall
SHADOWS
As shadows dance on my wall,
I lie awake in my bed.
Who has come to call?
Was that a noise in the hall?
Or was it just in my head?
As shadows dance on my wall.
Did I lock the door? I can’t recall.
I’m filled with a sense of dread.
Who has come to call?
Listen but there’s no sound at all.
Only silence instead.
As shadows dance on my wall.
Into the darkness I did call,
“I’ll fill you full of lead!”
Who has come to call?
Fleeing footsteps did not fall,
But this feeling I cannot shed,
As shadows dance on my wall, Who has come to call?

Cinderella’s Slipper
(Narrative)
I have a story to tell if I may.
While we sit here on this glorious day.
It begins with a beautiful young lass,
And me, a slipper made of glass.
I remember the night of the ball.
The prince invited every woman, one and all.
Saying you could be the one I marry.
That’s when the lass called her good fairy.
The fairy was there in a snap,
When she gave her hands a clap.
The lass said, “My clothes are tattered and worn”,
I must be beautifully adorned.
The fairy waved her wand and made the dress.
It was exquisite I must confess.
The fairy did the lass’ makeup and hair too,
Telling her, “There’s no way the prince won’t notice you.”
The lass was pleased by what the mirror had to show.
Then she looked at her bare feet and said, “I can’t go”.
That’s when the fairy presented little ‘ol me.
Saying to her, “This slipper will fit only thee.”
The lass slid me on, I fit like a glove.
I knew right then she was my true love.
Her and I danced with the prince all around the dance floor.
Then suddenly she ran for the door.
The lass remembered what the fairy had warned,
After midnight her clothes would return to being tattered and worn.
The stroke of midnight had begun.
The first bong from the clock ended our fun.
As the lass ran, I fell to the ground.
It wasn’t long before I was found.
The prince found me right away.
Then this is what he had to say.
Hear ye women of every class,
Who among you lost this slipper of glass.
He held me high for all to see,
“Whoever this fits shall marry me.”
Foot after foot we continued to try,
Foot after foot I had to deny.
Our effort was great, but our failure was grand.
Not one foot was found throughout the land.
The prince and I knocked on every door.
Until we had none to knock on anymore.
At the last house the prince and I tried,
I saw a lass I had not denied.
She was scrubbing the floor on her hands and knees.
The prince said, “Excuse me Will you try this on please?”
The prince slid me on her foot, and I fit like a glove.
The prince and I had found our true love.
